The Last Mau Mau

Kenya’s Freedom Heroes or Villains?

by David Njagi
1991

Permission Requested

When the idea first arose to put this book online, the copy I had looked so old that I thought it would be in the public domain. But as I put the website together, I noticed that the publication date was 1991, just 15 years ago. I then made numerous attempts to contact the author of the book. I Googled “David Njagi” and found a recent document that gave the phone number and e-mail address of a journalist in Kenya by that name. An e-mail to that address bounced. I tried to call the phone number and it was not in service. Finally, I sent an e-mail to the producer of the document in order to ask for an e-mail address for Njagi. This e-mail bounced as well. I did not find any other documents that gave his contact information.

I have described these efforts so that if Njagi comes across this website he will know that I’ve made a sincere attempt to contact him to request permission to reproduce his book here. If you are David Njagi, please contact me at the e-mail address given on my website. I hope you are pleased to see this information disseminated in this way, but if you are not, I will remove it. On the other hand, if you have an electronic version of the text available, I’d be happy to rework this site to use that (like what I did with the book about Ogiek land disputes), which would make it much easier for people to access the information online instead of with the page images currently used.
